Da Chaidan Emerald Lake: Green Gem on Silk Road

Attraction Guide

Da Chaidan Emerald Lake: Green Gem on Silk Road - Tuodada Travel

Da Chaidan Emerald Lake is located in the Da Chaidan Administrative District, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. In recent years, it has become a rising star on the Gansu-Qinghai Grand Loop. The Emerald Lake is actually a salt lake formed by artificial mining. Due to varying mineral content in different pools, the water displays a spectrum of colors — emerald green, jade green, sky blue, and mint blue. Viewed from above, the lakes resemble scattered jade gems across the Gobi Desert, hence the name "Emerald Lake."

Emerald Lake covers a large area composed of dozens of salt pools of various sizes. Each pool has its own unique color — some are as green as jade, others as deep blue as sapphire, and some display a dreamy mint green. The colors are vivid and layered, with white salt crystals contrasting beautifully against the multicolored water, creating a natural work of art.

Compared to Chaka Salt Lake, Emerald Lake is more off-the-beaten-path and pristine, with fewer visitors, allowing for quiet appreciation and photography. At sunset, the warm tones of the setting sun form a stunning color contrast with the green lake water — the most beautiful time for photography.
